Well, I have a little question about it. I have many years playing Yu gi oh and know the rulling but playing against a dino rabbit I attack with ophion to my opponent's sabersaurus, obiously he wait until damage to activate forbbiden lance and the game gaves me the option to use infestation pandemic in response. Thats possible???

I was wondering how you could not clearly tell if your opponent activated his card in Battle Step or Damage Step,
so I did a little test on such step change appear to each player.
I attacked with Ophion into Castor, while having Infastation Pandemic Infection in hand.
Opponent has Forbidden Lance set on field.

In Battle Step, Turn Player has the priority first,
so he is asked if he wants to activate Infastation Pandemic Infection.
Clicked No here.
Meanwhile, Opponent is not given any option and doesn't see anything.

Still in Battle Step, now the priority is passed to Opponent.
Opponent is asked if he wants to activate Forbidden Lance.
Clicked No here.
Meanwhile, Turn Player is not given any option and doesn;t see anything.

Now it's in Damage Step,
Opponent is asked again if he wants to activate Forbidden Lance.
Clicked Yes here.
Turn Player is not given any option to activate Infastation Pandemic Infection,
Battle occured properly.


In this case, the only clue for the Turn Player (who doesn't have a card/effect that can be activated in Damage Step)
to Know whether it's in Battle Step or Damage Step is that if he is given the option to activate or not.
You can also tell from the "Waiting..." message because it disappear for an instant inbetween the 2 Steps, but it is easily overlooked.

Though there is no clue to back me up for 100%, I would say most likely your opponent activated Forbidden Lance in the 2nd picture above, which is actually in Battle Step.

I always thought it's a bit hard to figure out about the steps in YGOPRO, but I don't know how it can be improved.
There are many substeps in Damage Step and if the game has to show all of them, it might look a bit clumsy.
Any suggestion smart people??
