I decided to make this its own topic so it would reach more people. My previous topic "Should anime cards be nerfed" went into great detail about cards that should be banned or limited, so check that out as it also concerns this topic! [:thumbu:]
As it currently stand when you host a duel you have 2 choices for a Forbidden list: the OCG list and the TCG list.
If you want to use anime cards, you can, however the ban list still applies.
Suppose you are an old school duelist and wants to use Pot of Greed? Your only choice is to use the option Don't Check Deck. This brings issues: people using an unlimited number of cards (x3 Graceful Charity, etc), or people using 6-card Exodia decks for an instant win [:thumdn:]
I believe we should have two new modes in addition to the two forbidden lists: Traditional format and Traditional Anime format. The first would be for people who only want to play with real cards, who also do not want to run into more than x1 copy of each banned card. Traditional format is a real format of Konami in fact. All banned cards become limited.
The latter would be for those who want x1 copy of each banned card, as well as a ban list for individual anime cards? In my previous topic we discussed whether or not we should ban certain anime cards. Consensus was leaning towards yes. A card like Chaos End Ruler is far to powerful, so that should be banned. If you still wanted to use it there would of course be the Traditional Anime mode or Don't Check Deck option.
Hopefully we can add these new formats as their own forbidden lists. I can't think of a reason not to. I myself have to use Don't Check Deck to use the cards I want. And its no fun when someone ignores my "Don't use an unlimited deck!" comment and joins with x3 Chaos End Rulers, x3 Raigeki, etc.
I also think we should ban and limit certain cards in anime mode. I doubt most people like encountering x3 Card of Sanctity (anime effect). Like I said in my previous topic, I don't think it would be to difficult to make a list. It seems like common sense that a card like anime-version Card of Demise, Roll of Fate, etc would be banned if they were real. As for limited and semi-limited cards? That's more debatable. Right now, the question is whether we should ban certain cards at the moment.
