Hello everyone.

I am looking for an artist(s) to draw some images for me for a project that I am doing for University work. I myself am very bad at this kind of art.

The game is in a Pokemon battle style, but you choose body parts to create your monster and give it different abilities and when you attack you choose which part of the body to attack.

So the art I am looking for is any art style and I need 4 pieces Head, Body, Arms and Legs done with the theme of Water, Fire, Nature, Wind, Rock, Thunder. So this would be 24 pieces of art. Making each part easily interchangeable is key so that the code to make them appear on the screen is simple and effective.

If you want to help either pm me or post a message here if you have any more questions. I will of course include you in my written report as helping with the art. You can either be mentioned by real name or username that is your choice.

Thanks.

So to make things clear(at least for me). You want Head, Body Arms and Legs with themes.
Those themes are:

  • Water
  • Fire
  • Nature(like Trees, bugs and stuff?)
  • Wind
  • Rock
  • Thunder

The simplest way of doing that, as far as I can tell, is to make symbols for each element. Then you can change the symbols instead of body parts. That would make the art work and coding much easier.

Unless you want to make something like

  • Water - Water Elemental parts
  • Fire - Fire Elemental parts
  • Nature - Orc parts
  • Wind - Bird parts
  • Rock - Golem parts
  • Thunder - Electro parts(?)

This makes me remember an old game for the old PS2 called "Monster Lab" that had this exact concept, first you collected ingredients and then you mixed 2 of them playing minigames, depending on the ingredients was the part that you obtained, and also depending on the points in the minigame was the quality of the piece (better stats like attack, defense or hit points) also some combinations of ingredinets gave you the same pieces but with different abilities, like the posibility to poison your enemy, multi attacks, regeneration or extra damage against certain types of monsters, once you created enough parts (head, torso and 2 arms and 2 legs) you just choose which parts do you want and create your monster (you can exchange the parts all the times you want) and then you battled against other monsters to win more ingredients to create more parts to create more powerful monsters!!! it was so fun, good old times of playing PS2, ahhh nostalgia... Either system works. The bottom one is the one I was going to shoot for in the long run, as I am planning to improve on this project after the hand in. At the moment I am just looking for some simple art assets to use, they do not mark on the art I just need something to show how the system works.

I got the idea for this from an old place called Games Domain where a company called Jagex, now famous for making Runescape, made a bunch of little games in a place called The Castle. One of the games was a game similar to what I am making but much simpler.

Actually Steel, the project you're talking about reminds me of Medabots for GBA. Like in that game I would give each part it's own HP. When a part's HP reaches 0 it's crippled and cannot be used in battle. The battle ends when the Hear part's HP reaches 0. Or something like that.

As for the design, I would go with something like this:

  1. Simple Animation, taking care of Coding and bugs.
  2. Once you're satisfied with the code make the animation better.

What do you think about it?

The game is pretty much done all it needs is art and polish, which is where this post came in.

You didn't mention that earlier so I thought you were in early development. []
