What is the Difference between OCG and TCG? I am a TCG player and see lots more playing OCG. Why is that? I thought TCG was the tournament legal only?
I am not sure as to what to follow anymore.
Can somehow give me some insights to OCG please?
(I have only ever followed TCG ruling)
Thanks as well for taking the time to give me some advice.

In general,

OCG is Asia, including Japan, where the game comes from. So that makes it the real game.

TCG is everywhere else, not including Japan. So I question the existence.[:confu:]

There are 3 BASIC difference between TCG and OCG.

1) Banlist

TCG and OCG have different banlists. For example in OCG Stratos is Limited but in TCG he's banned.

2) Different Rules(for now at least)

In OCG the first player doesn't draw, there can be 2 field spells on the field and there are some changes when it comes to battle phase(I didn't get that part). TCG plays by the same rules as before so nothing to say here.

3) Exclusive cards

Both OCG and TCG have cards that are exclusive for them. A good example are the Pendulums(for now OCG exclusive) and some cards that are TCG exclusive like Angel of Zera, Obedience scholed and many more.

As for questioning existence of TCG, I don't care. I play YgoPro using both TCG and OCG cards. So I feel that I should follow OCG rules. That doesn't mean I'm following OCG Banlist, I don't like that Banlist and I would say more but I don't want Steel to correct me again []

The change makes it so that only cards that specifically say that they can be activated during Damage Calculation can be activated during Damage Calculation. Other cards, such as Honest and Kalut, now have to activate either at the start of the Damage Step or right after a monster is flipped, making them less powerful than they used to be.

The reason they're separate is because historically the TCG used to be handled by another company. Then there was a big scandal involving that company not following Konami's guidelines, so Konami sued and won, and took over the TCG. By then, the trademark was too well entrenched to just scrap it and go through the hassle of localizing the OCG instead. So they went the easier route and simply continued the TCG.

Thank you guys very much. I just didn't understand it. So does this mean I should follow OCG then? Because I have only ever known TCG lol I don't like the banned list for OCG. What should I do? AND one more thing! sorry lol but does any tournament in U.S. follow OCG?

OCG is for Asia as TCG is for everywhere else [] Guess that answers your second question []

As for which banlist to follow, it's your choice. As far as I can tell tournaments follow the banlist and rules of where the tournament is held(don't know about WC though). Hope that clears things up[]

Cards that negate activations (like Naturia Landoise) of other cards can still be used in the damage step though, but not cards that only negate effects by chaining to them (Photon Strike Bounzer).

My educated guess is that WC follows OCG list and rules.

And according to azneyes in one of his videos, any OCG player that attends a TCG tourney will change its rules to match the OCG. I might have interpreted that wrong though.
